Excerpt from The Mills Seed Book, 1926, Vol. 39: Vegetable and Flower Seeds, Gladiolus Bulbs This new Melon, although. Of recent introduction, now occupies a very prominent place in all the markets. It is a long, green variety covered with a fine netting givin g it a most attractive appearance. The rind is thin but hard and tough so that it is unequaled as a market and shipping sort. The flesh is intensely red in color, being of superb quality. It is a great yielder and a money maker for all melon growers. The melons are of large Size and heavy, averaging from 18 to 24 inches long by 8 to 12 inches in diameter and weigh from 25 to 60 lbs. I can highly recommend it as a main crop sort. In the Southern States, of course, January, February, or March will be the time to sow, as they correspond with April, May, and June of the North. The Californian annuals, now so numerous and so ornamental, are very hardy, and should be sown early, as they get well established before the heat of summer.
