Amazon / Forgotten Books: Gladiolus Bulbs, Season 1930 Wholesale and Retail Classic Reprint (John H. McKibbin) Gladiolus Bulbs, Season 1930 Wholesale and Retail Classic Reprint (John H. McKibbin)

Excerpt from Gladiolus Bulbs, Season 1930: Wholesale and Retail In the firm belief that no other practical way has been found to definitely decide a di yiding line between a wholesale and retail buyer, I have printed in my list this year, a price schedule which ranges from one bulb to a thousand. I do this in the belief that the quantity purchaser is entitled to better prices regardless of his status as a grower. May I venture a prediction that I am right in this belief and that many other growers will soon be using the same method. Our Northern springs are so variable, that no definite period can be named. As a general rule, the proper time to commence sowing is about the middle of April, though a few sorts may be planted as soon as the ground can be got ready; and, for a succession, the sowing should be continued until June. In the Southern States, of course, January, February, or March will be the time to sow, as they correspond with April, May, and June of the North. The Californian annuals, now so numerous and so ornamental, are very hardy, and should be sown early, as they get well established before the heat of summer. To avoid all danger of injury, the sowing may be deferred till the last of April but, when a little labor is of no consideration, the ...

Excerpt from Vos Gladiolus, Narcissi, Spiraea, Tulips, Bleeding Hearts During the last two seasons we have turned down many orders for this variety due to the fact that we were sold out on the larger sizes. Our Maine needs no introduction as it is already known to Gladiolus growers everywhere and they all concede that, if not the best, it is one of the very best of all the white varieties ever sold. This vari ety is wonderful as a cut flower as its substance is un equaled by any other variety. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
