Cover the bulbs with three to six inches of well mellowed earth, depending on the character of the soil. Plant deeper in light soils, and shallower in heavier clay. The deeper planting insures more even moisture, and tends to support the heavy bloom spikes so that staking is not so necessary, while shallow planting is conducive to greater bulblet production.
