Amazon / Forgotten Books: Modest Catalog of One Hundred Choice and Standard Varieties of Gladiolus Bulbs, 1926 Classic Reprint (Golden Rule Gardens Firm) Modest Catalog of One Hundred Choice and Standard Varieties of Gladiolus Bulbs, 1926 Classic Reprint (Golden Rule Gardens Firm)

Excerpt from Modest Catalog of One Hundred Choice and Standard Varieties of Gladiolus Bulbs, 1926 When cutting the blooms, always allow about four good leaves to remain on the stalk, as the plant will need these leaves to form a good Vigorous bulb for the next sea son and to develop small bulblets or cormels which should be saved and planted, either with your large bulbs or by themselves the next year. These small bulblets or cor mels are new blood and will always be the same as the old bulb. New varieties are propagated from seeds which form after the flowers bloom. Dig your bulbs when the stalk turns brown, or if the season causes the stalks to keep green late in September or October, dig them when the ground is dry enough to handle nicely. Excerpt from Elmwood Terrace Gladioli, 1921: Price List of Surplus Gladiolus Bulbs From the Private Gardens of Elmwood Terrace, Bennington, Vt From the grandest estate to the humblest dooryard, the gladiolus is paramount among the floral beauties - every year the latest introductions - the newer prize winners are tested in our gardens and if worthy are added to our magnificent collection. We have many varieties not listed in these pages, but if the connoisseur is seeking a particular rare variety, and will write us we will be more than likely to have it, and if possible will supply one or more bulbs according to the quantity of stock on hand. We take a particular pride in having our bulbs true to name, but if an error occurs, the purchaser has only to report it and the stock will be replaced.
