Amazon / Forgotten Books: Gladiolus Catalogue and Price List, 1928 Classic Reprint (Paul-Ham Gardens) Gladiolus Catalogue and Price List, 1928 Classic Reprint (Paul-Ham Gardens)

Excerpt from Gladiolus Catalogue and Price List, 1928 The firm of paul-ham Gardens was formed about a year ago and is composed of Paul B. Blake and his son, Hamilton. The elder Blake has been a flower grower for many years and a few years ago became enthusiastic over the Gladiolus, which he has since grown in ever-increasing quantity. The younger Blake is still a high school student and is spending his vacations learning of Glads while working with them - cultivating, irrigating, digging and cleaning laboring for experience and a start in business. Amazon / Forgotten Books: Gladiolus, 1926 Classic Reprint (Indian Spring Farms) Gladiolus, 1926 Classic Reprint (Indian Spring Farms)

Excerpt from Gladiolus, 1926 Prepare the soil at least a foot deep. Plant in clusters, spacing the bulbs 3 to 6 inches apart, or in rows about 20 inches apart, to permit, of free and intensive cultivation, and 3 to 5 inches apart in the row. Cover the bulbs with three to six inches of well mellowed earth, depending on the character of the soil. Plant deeper in light soils, and shallower in heavier clay. The deeper planting insures more even moisture, and tends to support the heavy bloom spikes so that staking is not so necessary, while shallow planting is conducive to greater bulblet production. Amazon / Forgotten Books: Worth While , Peonies, Iris and Gladiolus, 1928 Classic Reprint (Wales Road Gardens) Worth While , Peonies, Iris and Gladiolus, 1928 Classic Reprint (Wales Road Gardens)

Excerpt from Worth While, Peonies, Iris and Gladiolus, 1928 Being ambitious to have our catalogue a criterion of quality, we have given a great deal of thought to the varieties of Peonies, Irises and Gladioli we list. In our trial grounds at Brie Blan the country home of A. G. Britsch, we have been growing for observation, during the past fifteen years, the new introductions of the worlds best hybridizers. New varieties are subjected to a most careful criticism, and each year, varieties that have been superseded by something better, are eliminated from our list. The varieties retained as Worth While are grown on as part of the stock of the Wales Road Gardens and offered here for your selection. Our Exhibition and Trial Gardens, located on Wales Road, just beyond the East Toledo City limits, are always open to visitors, and we wish that all those interested might visit them. The easiest road of approach is, drive to the end of Oak Street, jog right, left on Tracy Street 3 - 4 mile to Wales ...
