Following the bloom of the flowers, large 2'-3', finger-like, lovely green leaves emerge on 2' purple mottled and speckled stems, providing an umbrella for its roots.

It has double flowers of velvet-like deep red colour. These roses are low maintenance but still breathtaking, low, cluster-flowered shrubs. They bloom from end spring in several phases until the frosts. In mild winters they can have buds and occasional flowers yet in December.

Its name and characteristics were derived from a Swedish variety called Bornholm bred on on island of the same name. This one is more tolerant of damp weather which makes it suitable for continental climate.

It tolerates wide range of soils except for boggy and wet.
