Pagoda Dogwood Cornus alternifolia Tree bonsai 10 seeds
The Pagoda Dogwood is a small understory tree native to much of the eastern United States. It gets its common name from its pagoda-like horizontal branching pattern. An older name, Pigeonberry, refers to the fruits, which were once a favorite food of the now-extinct passenger pigeons. Its scientific species name, alternifolia, relates to the leaf pattern, which, unlike most dogwoods, alternates along the stem. This plants blossoms arent as showy as those of the common Flowering Dogwood, but they are still attractive. They are creamy or yellowish white, very fragrant, and form clusters at the ends of branches. The flowers are followed by berries that gradually change from green to red to blue-black, on red stalks. These berries are a valuable food for birds and other wildlife. The leaves can turn to a beautiful reddish-purple before they drop in autumn. The color varies from tree to tree, and may partly depend on growing conditions. The light brownish-gray bark, together with the intere ...

GIANT DOGWOOD cornus controversa 10 seeds
Giant Dogwood, a fast-growing deciduous tree that reaches 30 to 50 feet in height, eventually displays attractive horizontal branches clothed in large, five to eight-inch-long leaves, dark green above and silver/green beneath, which turn a lovely red color in the fall. In the middle of springtime, the trees produce a multitude of flat, white clusters of bloom in dense cymes up to five inches across. These blooms are followed by showy, blue/black berries which are quite attractive to birds and other wildlife. The branching pattern is more upright in youth, spreading as it grows. The spreading, tiered branches along a central leader of this dogwood offer a remarkable waterfall effect of leaves with bold, creamy white margins and giant blossoms, followed by intensely deep blue-black fruit. Hardiness Zones: 5-9 ...

CORNELIAN CHERRY DOGWOOD cornus mas 50 seeds
This Cornelian cherry dogwood is a multi-stemmed, low-branching, round to oval, deciduous shrub which typically grows 15-20 (infrequently to 25) tall, and is somewhat more erect in appearance and more vigorous than the species. Can be trained as a small tree by removal of suckers and lower branches. Features tiny, star-like, yellow flowers borne in umbels which appear in late winter to early spring before the foliage. This cultivar typically flowers more abundantly than the species. Flowers give way to tiny red drupes which mature in the summer, but are often inconspicuous because hidden by the foliage. Drupes are technically edible, but not particularly tasty and are infrequently harvested unless for use in syrups or jams. Bright red fruits are shaped like an olive between 0.5 to 1 long and about 0.5 wide. Fruit color develops in mid summer. Can be eaten when color becomes dark red or maroon. Deep green, oval leaves acquire a somewhat undistinguished, dull purple tinge in autumn. Attr ...

FLOWERING DOGWOOD CORNUS FLORIDA BULK 100 seeds
Flowering dogwood is a small tree, up to 30 ft in height and 35 ft across, but the typical size is more like 15 ft tall and 15-20 ft across. It has a short trunk and a full, rounded crown with horizontal branches often in layered tiers, spreading wider than its height. The bark on mature trees is broken up into small square blocks. Flowering dogwood has opposite, deciduous midgreen leaves, 3-6 in long, which turn red and purple in fall. Flowering dogwood blooms in the spring, as its new leaves are unfolding, and usually remains showy for 2-3 weeks. The inflorescence consists of four showy petal-like bracts, usually snow white or pink, surrounding a cluster of tiny inconspicuous yellowish flowers. The bracts are 1-2 in long and obovate in shape, usually with a cleft at the tip. Clusters of bright red football shaped fruits, about a half inch long, follow the flowers and often persist into winter. Flowering dogwood is one of the most popular ornamental specimen trees in eastern North Ame ...
