Pieris japonica 'Katsura' - lily of the valley

Lily of the valley shrub is an attractive evergreen shrub with handsome flowers and striking red new leaves. Vase-shaped flowers are pink and hang on pink stamens in slightly pendent, long racemes. “Katsura” is the darkest variety with deep burgundy red new leaves, which turn to dark green in summer.

Pieris has shallow roots so does not need deep soil. It can be planted in full sun or semi-shade provided the roots are cool and moist. The soil has to be rich in organic material and acidic. Fully hardy.
