Plants: Dioon edule - Cycad

The Mexican Cycas is a true "living fossil", the name often applied to cycads because they have changed very little in the last 200 million years. Dioon edule is truly a handsome and distinctive specimen. And it is one of the most cold hardy cycads. Mature and established plants have been reported to tolerate temperatures down to 9 F for several days.

This plant may eventually grow to just over ten feet in height -- a most useful size for landscape design. Dioon edule is always in high demand but seeds are usually quite scarce. Surprisingly easy to grow and care for, the Dioon edule is indeed a prized specimen and bound to attract many admirers.
