Epimedium, Geranium macrorrhizum, Clematis heracleifolia ‘Côte d’Azur’, Anemone nemorosa
Epimedium
Epimedium produces flowers as early as April and May but its attractive foliage also provides visual interest during the rest of the growing season. Epimedium produces delicate graceful flowers and leathery leaves. In the wild, Epimedium grows in deciduous forests and thus prefers a location in light shade with somewhat moist soil.Geranium macrorrhizum
Geranium macrorrhizum is an outstanding plant for use beneath shrubs and trees as well as at the edges of plantings. It tolerates both shade and dry soil, and spreads horizontally by means of aerial rhizomes. Both leaves and stems are covered with small glandular hairs that give the plant its distinctive smell. The flowers, which always appear in twos, are 2-3 cm. in diameter.Clematis heracleifolia ‘Côte d’Azur’
This is a perennial that requires support to climb and for this reason makes a fine groundcover. It bears lilac-blue flowers from July through September. ‘Côte d’Azur’ prefers a sunny location and can withstand very cold winters.Anemone nemorosa
There are many cultivated varieties of Anemone nemorosa: single-flowering, double-flowering and large-flowering. The plant grows to a height of about 15 cm., flowers from March to May, and makes a beautiful addition to the garden in the spring.
